I have been going to Southern Hills for over 10 years. I am patient 100 and something. At one point, I had three dogs and two cats. Each one of my pets has had a plethora of ailments throughout their lifetimes, and I have always trusted Dr. Blakesly to give compassionate care, a listening ear, and reasonable prices. She never pushes treatment and works with me to find the best course of action. She always tells me her honest opinion, and I can tell that she is in the business for the animals, not the money. My dog lived well past 17 years old, and I wholeheartedly believe that is in part thanks to Dr. B’s insights and care. I also have an extremely fearful 65lb mix breed, that they treat with gentleness and patience. Every staff member takes time with every patient and gets to know you and your pets personally. The wait time for appointments has increased, but I think that’s a testament to how many people love her. I try to make my appointments in advance and love the convenience of the online scheduling and text message communication. They often offer drop off if they are booked and pets are usually seen within a couple hours. I love Dr. B and the ENTIRE staff from the front to the back.

I am extremely disappointed with my experience at this clinic and will not be returning. I originally called because I was concerned about my dog, who had diarrhea and a swollen, bloody rear end. I was told the soonest appointment was 10 days out, so I scheduled it and asked to be placed on the cancellation list. The next morning, the clinic called to say there was an opening that day and asked me to bring him in between 8–10 AM. I dropped him off at 9 AM. After hearing nothing for hours, I called at 11 AM to ask when he would be seen and was told “soon.” I finally received a call at 1 PM—four hours after drop-off—meaning my dog had been sitting in a kennel for four hours without being seen or given a chance to relieve himself. I was told everything looked “fine,” that I could pick him up, and that I would be charged $110 for a vet fee and diarrhea medication. When I asked why his rear was swollen and bloody, I was told it was because he had been licking it. When I asked why he had been licking it, since that indicates an underlying issue, I was told it was “minor” and nothing to worry about. I requested to speak with the veterinarian when I arrived, especially since I was paying for a vet visit. When the vet finally came out, she admitted she didn’t know what my dog’s rear normally looked like and therefore couldn’t tell if it was swollen. I showed photos from the previous day compared to that day, and she then agreed it was significantly more swollen. She also stated she didn’t see the redness during the exam and implied that because my dog was “rowdy,” it was hard to examine him—essentially confirming that the issue I brought him in for was not properly evaluated. This was incredibly frustrating. My dog was kenneled for hours, not thoroughly examined, and I was dismissed when raising valid medical concerns. On top of that, in all my visits to this clinic, I have never once seen a veterinarian during the appointment, which is highly unusual. My dog is always taken to the back and returned with minimal explanation. As a pet owner, you trust vets with your animal’s health and well-being. This experience lacked transparency, communication, and thorough care. I would urge other pet owners to ask detailed questions and advocate strongly for their pets if they choose to come here.
